ACWA Power is preparing to commission Uzbekistan’s first green hydrogen facility this June, marking a significant milestone in the country’s clean energy ambitions. The development was shared during the IV Tashkent International Investment Forum, which focused on the role of renewable energy in addressing environmental challenges under the theme “Green Development Model of New Uzbekistan.”
The plant, with an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons, will be the country’s first operational green hydrogen project. Its commissioning positions Uzbekistan among the early movers in Central Asia's green hydrogen landscape and reflects the nation’s growing efforts to diversify its energy mix with sustainable sources.
ACWA Power, which operates across 14 countries, is actively expanding its presence in renewable energy and green fuel sectors. Of its nearly 79,000 megawatts (MW) of power capacity under various stages of development, construction, or operation, approximately 47% is derived from renewable energy. In addition to power generation, the company also produces 9.5 million cubic meters of desalinated water daily and is advancing several green hydrogen and ammonia projects in both Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan’s renewable energy sector has seen a surge in international investment, driven by ongoing energy sector reforms and proactive government policies. Global developers such as AMEA Power, Masdar, EDF, Total, and Voltalia are increasingly participating in Uzbekistan’s clean energy transition, underscoring the country’s emergence as an attractive destination for sustainable infrastructure investment.
